Union County Business, Education, and Workforce Team

The Union County Workforce Policy Board, the statutory name for the Union County Business, Education, Workforce Team (BEWT), provides communication between the business community and government in Union County. It works on various tasks including employee/corporate training, interview training, bi-annual wage/benefit and training surveys, annual community job fair, a K-12 grant program, and educational workshops for local educators.

Workplaces of Today and Tomorrow
The ultimate goal of Workplaces of Today and Tomorrow (WTT) is to bolster local and regional economic competitiveness by engaging local educators in workforce issues. WTT provides local educators the opportunity to interact with business owners and managers in order to align education with economic and workforce development planning. The educators use information shared during open dialogue meetings to develop curriculum and programs specifically designed to aid and prepare Union County’s youth for future employment within our county.

Union County Job & Career Fair
The Union County Job & Career Fair is held annually and connects Union County employers with potential employees. Besides networking opportunities with area employers, the Union County Job & Career Fair also provides on-site resume reviews, soft-skills training and interviewing techniques to ensure that Union County residents are better prepared for and able to obtain employment positions within the community.

Wage and Benefit Survey
Conducted biennially, the Wage & Benefit Survey measures salary levels and fringe benefits offered by area employers. The Survey is used by employers to determine the compensation levels needed to attract and retain quality employees and to design a strategy for compensating their workforce.

Employer Training Survey
The Union County Employer Training Survey is conducted biennially to provide direction for a coordinated and effective response to workforce development issues caused by rapid economic and demographic change in the local and regional markets. The Training Survey allows local policy makers and elected officials to review, alter and create programs that improve the competitiveness of the local workforce, thus ensuring a stronger and more stable economy.

Business-Education Connection Grants
With the support of local businesses and corporations, the Union County Business-Education Connection Grant Program allows educators in Union County schools to seek funding to implement classroom projects that focus on business development, financial literacy, economic and entrepreneurial development. The projects implemented are designed to help students understand the functions of Capitalism and the open-market theory. Click the link to view the Grant Program Summary from the 2010 program.
