Downtown Revitalization

Downtown Richwood

In 2005 the Richwood Area Business Association (RABA) worked closely with Heritage Ohio to complete a Downtown Assessment Resource Team (DART) visit. Since then, downtown revitalization efforts have focused primarily on community events, marketing/branding and a strong effort to encourage residents to shop local.

Richwood community leaders and private citizens have actively promoted their many homegrown retailers and restaurants that are located throughout the historic downtown district. With culturally significant sites such as the Richwood Opera House (constructed in 1892), beautiful 29-acre Richwood Park and Lake, and new municipal building, downtown Richwood continues to serve as the community’s gathering place and point of pride.

Uptown Plain City

Residents are excited about the future of Plain City’s historic Uptown. Following the creation of the Uptown Plain City Revitalization Plan in 2009, a Building and Land Use Plan was drafted and adopted in 2010. This plan will serve as the primary guide for redevelopment efforts as Plain City continues to transform its historic Uptown area into a destination location. Members of the Uptown Plain City Organization, together with community leaders and stakeholders, continue to tackle important issues such as historic preservation, community branding, land use planning, streetscape improvements and business retention. All of these efforts have been made to ensure that Plain City’s Uptown area remains a vibrant and welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.

Building upon assets such as its unique architecture, rich local history, natural beauty, and agricultural heritage, Plain City remains a growing community that is quickly becoming known as a regional tourism destination. The community’s ties to its earliest settlers are reflected through the many cottage industries that specialize in artisan crafted products like cheese, breads, wines, quilts, crafts, furniture and collectibles.

Uptown Marysville

The future of Uptown Marysville is as bright as ever. Efforts are underway to enhance the business and residential environment in Uptown Marysville by retaining and attracting small businesses and entrepreneurs, supporting the development of loft and upper-level residential units, exploring comprehensive marketing and tourism opportunities, and by creating positive partnerships that promote an attractive and unique Uptown District.

Despite a recent downturn in the national economy, Uptown Marysville continued to witness extensive public and private investment, further evidence of its true economic vitality. Since 2008, the Uptown District has received more than $500,000 in private investment and an additional $400,000 in infrastructure improvements including new sidewalks, crosswalks, street lights and banners, traffic signals, benches, flower pots and hanging baskets. These improvements, together with the dedication of residents, business owners and community leaders, will ensure that Uptown Marysville continues to flourish for generations to come.
