A Strategy for the Stability and Progress of the Union County and Marysville Economy
The Union County-Marysville Economic Development Partnership, Union County Chamber of Commerce, and the Union County Community Improvement Corporation have declared the Union County-Marysville Economic Development Action Plan (EDAP) to be the single most important document to maintain and improve the community’s economic health.
From October 2001 until December of 2002, Union County and Marysville community and business leaders worked closely with Don Iannone and Associates from Cleveland to put together an Economic Development Action Plan (EDAP). This plan, which focuses on a short-term (years 1-5) strategy and a long-term strategy (years 6-20), will become the blueprint for our community to improve the business climate for existing businesses and for potential businesses looking to expand. The Action Plan was paid for by the Union County Commissioners, City of Marysville and the Union County Community Improvement Corporation.
This document provides an Action Plan that outlines specific recommendations on how we can improve our competitiveness and encourage business growth and development. The Partnership, Chamber and Community Improvement Corporation have determined this plan to be the single most important document for our community’s future.
With the unprecedented residential growth in our area that burdens our schools and local governments and with the growing difficulty facing local governments to provide services to the residents, the growth of the business community and the growth of the tax base become the key factors in providing revenues to a thriving and self sustaining community.
A business provides a multi-layered tax base including employee income taxes, corporate income taxes, property taxes and sales taxes that are funneled to the local schools, community governments, and police and fire departments. The EDAP will focus on encouraging the expansion of the business community and the tax base. Appropriately, the Partnership, Chamber, and Community Improvement Corporation have formed an EDAP Implementation Committee, comprised of business, government and community leaders, that will have as its one and only goal of making certain the plan’s recommendations are implemented.
We welcome the plan’s implementation and challenge Union County and Marysville residents and businesses to support this effort.
